Tarek Elshayeb has served as Director of the ISSO since August 2013. He has previously held similar positions at Western Kentucky University, Indiana University-Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW), State University of New York (SUNY) Plattsburgh and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM).

Denise V. Medeiros

Associate Director - DSO/ARO

Denise Medeiros serves as the Associate Director of the ISSO and has been a staff member since November, 2002.  She has previously worked with international students and scholars at Cornell University and the State University of New York at Buffalo.  She holds a Master of Arts in Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies both from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Amy Mabery

Amy Mabery

Assistant Director - DSO/ARO

Amy Mabery has served as an international student adviser since 2007.  She first caught the international student bug after volunteering at an international student orientation at NC State University.  Even though she was already working in environmental science, the experience moved her so much that she went back to school to obtain a master’s degree that would prepare her for the field of international education.  Surprisingly, Amy’s first professional experience working with international students was a 1-year internship at UNC Charlotte.  Amy is happy to be back...

Hunter Swayngim

Administrative Assistant - DSO

Hunter Swayngim began working with the ISSO in 2017 as a Student Assistant. He completed his Bachelor's degree in History with a Minor in the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights in 2019, then worked in the Political Science department as the Undergraduate Administrative Associate. In July 2022 he took on the Administrative Assistant position in the ISSO. He is currently pursuing a Masters degree at Appalachian State.

Dillon Clausner

International Student & Scholar Advisor - DSO/ARO

Daniel “Dillon” Clausner Jr. has worked as an International Student and Scholar Advisor at UNC-Charlotte since December 2019. After graduating with a BA from Northwestern University, he served in the U.S. Peace Corps for 2 years in Cambodia. During the Peace Corps, Dillon was overawed by the warm welcome that Cambodians extended to him, and vowed to pursue a career where he could extend a similar welcome to those coming to the United States for work or study.

Vivian Klentos

International Student Advisor - DSO

Vivian Klentos joined the ISSO team in July 2021. She is both a first-generation American and first-generation college student. Her international background includes working with both refugee and asylee populations, as well as international students at the university level. She holds a Master's Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, and a Bachelor's Degree in Global and International Studies from the State University of New York at Oswego in Oswego, NY.

Chau Tran

SEVIS Coordinator - DSO

Chau Tran has served as SEVIS Coordinator in the ISSO since April 2003. She has previously worked at the University of South Carolina as the Accountant/Programmer in the Controller’s Office and from Duke Energy as IT Consultant.  Chau holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from UNC Charlotte.

Chau has traveled to England, France, Malta, Latvia, Honduras, Belize and Mexico.
