If your UNC Charlotte program begins during a summer term, you must be in the U.S. and enrolled full-time in classes for the summer term. The full-time enrollment criteria for Summer as well as Fall/Spring terms are listed below.

  • Full time enrollment during your first term (Summer) – You must be enrolled full-time your during your first term.
    • Grad full-time during summer, 6 credits
    • Undergrad students will not be admitted to begin a program over the summer
  • Full time enrollment required during Fall & Spring semesters – You must also remain enrolled full time during Fall and Spring semesters.
    • Grad full-time during fall & spring, 9 credits
    • Undergrad full-time during fall & spring, 12 credits

Other important factors to keep in mind if you are planning to begin a program during a summer term:

Check with your Academic Department for information about funding for a summer term. Generally, Academic Departments do not offer funding support for the summer term, and students admitted for a summer term must be prepared to pay the full cost of their summer studies immediately upon arrival.

Check In & Orientation:

F-1 students admitted for summer must check in at the ISSO after arrival in the U.S. At your check in, the ISSO will review your visa & travel documents to ensure that they are correct. Students arriving for a summer term should review the Orientation section of our website. If possible, students admitted for a summer term should also attend in-person orientation events occurring in the Fall semester, as these events can help any new student make valuable social connections and learn where to get support on campus.
